Taiwan's machine tool export surges for 17% in September


Even the monthly export of Taiwan’s machine tools was 290 million USD in September, representing a 6.2% decline compared to the August, the year on year export reached 2.42 billion USD, representing a 17% growth and marking a great success.

The export of cutting machines and forming machines in September alone is 246 million USD and 43.58 million USD respectively. These two categories declined in export volume due to the demands from Mainland China, the US, and Japan withdrew. Mainland China withdrew for 24%, the US withdrew for 18%, and Japan 57%. These three markets are Taiwan’s primary export markets so the corresponding impact is obvious.

However, from January to September, the export of cutting machines reached 2.017 billion USD, representing a 17.6% year-on-year growth rate, while forming machines reached 402 million USD, representing a 14% growth rate. Among all the Taiwan machine tool categories, there are seven types of machines performed well:

- EDM, Laser, Ultrasonic Machine Tools
- Machine Centers
- Lathe
- Drilling, Boring, Milling, and Tapping Machine Tools
- Planing, Shaping, Slotting, and Broaching Machine Tools
- Forging and Pressing Machine Tools
- Other Forming Machine Tools

Among the above mentioned seven categories, the “Drilling, Boring, Milling, and Tapping Machine Tools” is the one that prevailed all, representing a 46.9% growth, making it the most popular machine tool category in the world market.

The top 10 export nations of Taiwan machine tool products are ranked as: Mainland China (35.1%), the US (10.8%), Turkey (4.0%), Germany (4.0%), Thailand (3.8%), Vietnam (3.2%), South Korea (3.2), India (3.1%), Russia (2.8%), and Netherland (2.8%). From January to September, the export of machine tools to the China market reached 849 million USD, representing a 34.1% year-on-year growth, while the export to the US market reached 263 million USD, representing a 4.5% year-on-year growth.
